Fire season and landscape
Fire season typically builds through June and peaks in July and August, with lightning from early monsoon moisture starting many of the state's remote fires. Cheatgrass-driven fires in the west desert can move quickly on windy days.
The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache, Ashley, Fishlake, and Dixie national forests run down the spine of the state, with the five national parks concentrated in the canyon country to the south. Smoke, dust, and winter inversions all affect Wasatch Front air quality through the year.
